Aligned with Carles Blog renovations & posting my portfolio on-line, I have decided to take on a Self Promotion Project.

Life will move much easier in the long run, if time is wisely used at present to plan & prepare.

Already, it is racking my brain.

It causes me to think drawn out thoughts about the position of people my age, in America, who went to college with big expectations & are now disappointed by  not receiving the intended return — IT’S OKAY!!!

I’m not judging you for working the cash register at Whole Foods or for serving my drinks at the bar. Everyone needs to make $$$ to take care of at least the necessities. Making $$$ is a struggle. On that note: Don’t judge yourself!

Don’t judge others for doing what’s best by them, either. I chose my path long before I ever even went to college. This crazy economic state has actually provided me with the perfect circumstances to live out my dreams. Though, life isn’t a fantasy.

There is an extended version of my thoughts on the way, as soon as I make some more headway on the Self Promotion Project. For now, relax. Do something that makes you feel good about being you & that has absolutely nothing to do wit the material world.

: )

To move forward properly, one must first reflect on the accomplishments, set-backs & personal actions that have marked the path to the spot one currently stands.

-Wow, I’m being poetic this evening.

For me, 2010 was filled with career advancing endeavors. My mentality was to accept any opportunity that came my way. Plenty sure did.

From it all, I know that I enjoy being active & involved. I get a very strong sense that people are willing to work together. So many people have great ideas that they are springing into action!

And, that from this step forward it is my personal promise to myself to take more time to ensure my own personal well being. Too often people (myself included) become caught up in getting it done. Only to relieve its stressors by quaffing down some heavy beverage.

I firmly believe that if this mentality was unanimously adopted far & wide that many of the problems we struggle against will magically release themselves from our lives.

2010 was astrologically said to be a year of gathering resources.

What have you gained this year?

To see what I was up to in a highly abbreviated, bullet point format- click the link above for a PDF version of my 2010 resumé.

The Young Lords

As a nerdy college student, I dedicated one of my summer breaks to the transcribing of all the materials that were used to produce The Young Lords A Reader. Edited by Dr. Darrel Enck-Wanzer, who was at that time a Professor at Eastern Illinois University & who more importantly was & is still the husband of my favorite mentor- Suz!

Wanzer & Enck (in that order). Their intelligence is intimidating!!!

The book has recently (finally) been published.

Darrell was kind enough to give me props in print! And the second copy to come off the presses!!!

I couldn’t be more excited about it.

Sadly, my to-read list has me on a tight schedule. This evening I even had to make calls to libraries around the metropolitan area in order to re-check out a small handful of nearly over-due books, which I’ve barely glanced at. [Inter-library loans rock!]

So, I won’t be reading it from cover to cover until 2011.

With the publishing of Young Lords A Reader & the consequential Facebook conversations surrounding the topic, my thoughts ventured back to the history lessons learned from reading through all of the YLO’s personally published papers Palante.

The task of transcribing all of Darrell’s resources (primarily from the bi-monthly papers) was tiresome at best. For two good reasons:

  • Reading the papers which are old, unkempt & scanned into a PDF was difficult on the eyes.
  • The material itself was not uplifting, even though the YLO’s actions were an attempt to uplift the community as a whole.

Note: The Young Lords will be referred to from here on as YLO, an abbreviation for the Young Lords Organization. The word “organization” was eventually dropped from the groups title.

What I recall most of all are my feelings of anger & dismay towards the fact that the movement stopped. Ended. Caput. Very little explanation was provided from my resources at that time.

Darrell did do his best to explain the change of times and overall loss of force experienced by the overall Liberation Movement. He also explained that one of the reasons for publishing the book was to remind people that such a movement did exist & that there are people who still work towards its underlying principles.

I was seriously unsatisfied.

I kept thinking but they were doing so good. Things were happening- there was inertia! They were standing up for themselves! How could something that BIG just end?!

Then I looked at the cover of the book. Stared at it for what felt like an hour, reviewing years of knowledge, references, books, conversations & my own personal beliefs. I saw for a very brief moment my own transitions. As if it all were depicted on a historical grid. The thoughts that I hold as truths– Darrel’s voice chiming in with “There is no truth.” And my own personal ways of inciting change.

Suddenly, everything made sense.

The YLO was inherently good! The YLO’s 13 Point Program & Platform explains quite quickly what the organization stood for and how they went about obtaining their goals. Two things that I remember about the YLO, which are not listed is their initial community works & one major criteria that all members had to meet in order to be a Young Lord.

First, the latter– because the YLO is a group dedicated to the liberation of the Puerto Rican people, they realized that many of their potential members were drug addicts. Suppressed people use whatever is available to them in order to forget their feelings of angst.  Therefore, one had to prove sobriety in order to become a member. This alone is inspiring. People cleaned up for their community & because they had finally found within each other a support system.

The YLO as you can imagine make up what was the lower class of American society. Workers. Much like the Mexicans of today, they were a people brought here by the allure of the American Dream. Only to be met with racism, hard work for poor pay and no where else to go.

On top of that their neighborhoods were filthy because the garbage men refused to go into that area of town.

Imagine living in an area where the trash just piles up and NEVER GOES AWAY!

So, as a community they chose to clean up. As a group they stormed through doors of Public Works and took brooms, dust pans and garbage cans to collect it all. Just a few kids from the streets spent a Sunday afternoon cleaning the area they lived in, which inspired the entire community to join in and work towards a common good. (Hooray).

(I don’t remember exactly…) But, I’m pretty sure that this resulted in the arrest of the key leaders on more than one occasion. From there the opposing forces [Whitey v. the YLO] pushed against each other and the movement took off.

Really, I could talk about this all night long. There are plenty of lessons to be learned from the YLO & their major attempt of liberating Puerto Ricans.

One thing I’d like to mention before moving on entirely is that I met a Puerto Rican native earlier this summer. He moved to the U.S. to attend college, his parents still lived on the island. He had never heard of the YLO or any attempt at liberating the Puerto Ricans. He had graduated from Marquette University and was working as a bicycle mechanic at the time. His question to me was “Why would  Puerto Ricans need to be liberated?

Indeed. Why would anyone?

The cover of the book is really exciting. You can feel the action in the picture! Their march almost looks like a dance, you can see that there is a rhythm to it. It’s a good cover!

What else does it say though? Well, they are marching in military garb. Granted this was a very militant time in our country’s (world) history. Plenty of people were wearing militant outfits because everyone was at WAR!

The liberation movement was militant.

Forces from all over America were pushing against each other.

Making for a very exciting time in history… We look to it often still, talk about it, blah blah blah as if it were current pop culture. (No offense Darrel, the previous comment does not pertain to you).

VH1 should shut the hell up though.

I can’t find a YouTube video to nicely wrap up this post, but there is quote from the movie MICHAEL (the one with John Travolta) which sums up my feelings toward this whole sha-nay-nay perfectly:

The Sun had an argument with the North Wind.

Who was smarter? Stronger.

The North Wind pointed out a man walking down the street.

"I can make that man take his coat off and you can't."
"I'll take that bet," said the Sun.

The North Wind blew and the more that wind blew,
the tighter that man held that coat around himself.
And then the Sun came out and smiled and it became warmer,
and the man took off his coat.

I’ve learned that once a person who has aligned themselves with the LIGHT  they are able to control their emotions [energy in motions] without effort. Enlightenment comes from treating the energy motions like a horse!

Hardly ever do I feel an extra-ordinary power over even my own emotions.

Usually my emotions have power over me.

This sort of something sits on my brain.

Especially, lately.

At this phase, that which is deeply rooted within me, is pushing itself outwards.

It’s strange, slightly.

Instead of feeling weighted down to the Earth, I feel as if my own core is what is pulling at me.

Trey does a pretty awesome job of grabbing my ATTN: : )

Venus went retrograde on October 7 and she will not go direct until November 18, 2010.

While she is apparently floating backwards through the solar system automatically our focus turns inwards.

Even on a night not suited for star gazing Venus should be able to find. Her presence, therefore has influence within’ our lives. Similarly to the way our neighbors dog has a way of being able to control our present state of mind.

Here she is ladies & gentleman

Venus is the goddess of LOVE!

One of her animal figures is the dove…

: )

While not exactly happy, my emotions are not nearly blue.

However, they do feel FULL, they’re meaty & weighted, they are present–

— it’s true.

Ha! I am full of emotion!

One thought that happened the other day- I meandered around the difference between blog posting and journal writing.

Though I don’t necessarily have what you’d consider a journal…

There is of course, My Diary. No key & which currently stays shut with thanks to a rubber band.

My mandala doodles which happen anywhere (some of the best are in My Diary).

And, just a moment ago during a pause of this post I wrote on the very last page of my notebook which has doubled as my work notes & self-purging catch all. Snow was on the ground when I began using it as a sketch pad. Whenever that was, definitely 2010.

Then I have this space here. Undoubtedly my most connected form of written communications intended entirely for my own self benefit.

What benefits for the self do you do?

To make you feel good & more like you?

Other than my emotion filled self there is a thread to this post. One that is awesome and what influenced me most.

It’s purposefully been hidden, so that you must look close. I’m trying to keep it a secret.  So if you find your way to itFEEL IT before it’s over exposed.

Like Lady Venus all things come full circle, then at some point must end.

I’ll give you one more thing to hold on to, to move to & to sing with, or to help your mind wander.

Because if you are reading this, than you are indeed my friend!

( : Unless you’re my mother : )

p.s. in the not so distant future my categories will be changing for the better.

Focusing energy can be a daunting task.

I struggle with it.  I’ve recently begun to yet again re-asses my values and priorities.  So, now I’m here. BLOGGING.

Without actually taking the time to go back and check the date of my last post, my best proximation is that it’s been well over a month since my last posting.

Last night I may have successfully tapped back into my dreams. The challenge is keeping it consistent with time. I don’t anticipate a similar experience tonight.

In late Spring I was hired on by To-Go Ware to tour around the east coast with the i4c campaign on the Lilith Fair Tour.

The tour has been cancelled. [2010 is about local initiatives anyhow.] Worked the only show to boot at Tinley Park on Saturday. It was spectacular! I LOVE my bamboo utensils!

Volunteered at Pitchfork through Benton House with a Working Bikes ensemble on Sunday.  & had an awesome time!

Photographed, volunteered for the Green Team @  Boiling Pot in Kalamazoo MI for the 4th of July! While there, I also: bleached super awesome Go Green or Go Sit in a Landfill T’s, had a walkie talkie, dove into some Carly sized receptacles to eliminate contamination, provided variously flavored knock-off brand cigarettes & was introduced to good MI music.

Don’t forget to work on your Death Mix before it’s too late!

Here’s one with the hansom gents of I.D.E.A.

I.D.E.A. Association

Escaped to the cottage twice & had experiences that only Big Blue Lake can produce. Look forward to plans& construction  for the octa-raft!

At last finished The Once and Future King. Hm.,

Currently have a dog staring out a door she can’t leave without a leash. She still has so much potential. No being should have to be constantly in doors or make me be tied to them while outdoors. & am hanging out with JULIE who is marching off to university in August. : (  she’s talking right now. …………….

well dressed girls @ Coachella 2010. L.A.'s kick-off of festi season.

Spend great deals of time contemplating the coming together of folk. Execution of events. What it means to be successful.  My personal interactions with others & the power of my thoughts which guide me.

Am headed up to Jackson tomorrow to act as driver and do what it takes pal to good pal Kubic in preparation and on-site at Land of Nod.

I am truly looking forward to the rest of this week. The experience [like so many that I’ve had already this summer] is going to be exceptional.

Magic + MI + Recyclown CIRCHAOS + good time w. grand friends [&home girls]= what is yet to come

If you dig astrology this is my fav new find.

( : peace : )
